The Typical Roof Replacement Timeline: What to Expect

If you’ve never tackled a roofing replacement project before, you may be unsure of what to expect.. To get you started, Lifestyle Home Improvement Roofing and Construction shares a brief overview of a typical project timeline below:

Before Installation Day

Materials for your roofing project will be delivered to your home a few days to a week before the agreed-upon installation day, as well as a dumpster or two for gathering debris and recycling old roofing materials. Make sure you confirm with your roofing contractor when these deliveries will be made to ensure someone is home to receive the items and you have space ready for storage.

During Installation Day

Before beginning the actual roof replacement work, your roofing contractors will help you protect items inside and outside the home that could be damaged during the construction. Your landscaping will be covered to keep it safe from debris. If you have any ground rules you want followed while work is being done on your home, this is the time to communicate that to the project manager.

The roofers will tear off your old shingles before installing the new ones. After installation is finished, they’ll do a final walk-through with you, and you can take this opportunity to ask any questions and air any concerns. If everything is in order, your roofer will proceed to cleaning the job site, including sweeping your yard for loose nails and other debris. You can ask for a secondary sweep, if you want.

After Installation Day

Within a few days after your roofing system is installed, your roofing contractor will pick up the dumpsters and schedule a final meeting with you. Make sure you fully understand all terms and conditions in your warranty and it’s clear who will be responsible for registering your warranty with the manufacturer.
